Welcome to A Teacher’s Best Friend! I’m Alison – nice to meet you!!
I’m a former teacher, teacher trainer, curriculum developer, and current BFF to teachers. I began my career as a teacher, so I know that teaching is truly a service profession that requires ongoing connection to passion, strong personal and professional boundaries, and a very strong sense of self and worthiness. I had the passion part – but the rest was very difficult for me, so the passion began to erode and was replaced by a stress-resentment cocktail (Ouch!) that was a recipe for disaster.
However, it also planted a seed that has bloomed into my true life-calling and life’s work – supporting teachers. And I mean REALLY supporting teachers – with what you need deep down in your soul.
Spoiler Alert: This is not a site with more instructional resources. This is a hierarchy of needs issue (see, told ya I was a teacher). When you are drowning in your personal seas of being overworked, stressed, rundown, resentful, and negative, instructional resources and instructional coaching are not appropriate!
First, you need to feel sane and safe. Then you need to be able to focus on having a work/life balance that makes you feel whole and human. Then you can focus on reigniting the true reasons you got in to this profession – and finding ways to measure your personal success on more than just student test scores. Finally, you can then work on your craft (including instructional coaching and employing new training and resources).
This is the happy-fulfilled cocktail recipe that yields one happy teacher, exercising your passion, feeling peaceful and organized, and seeing better student results because of it!
So how do you get there? Personal and professional coaching – what I call Empowerment Coaching – specifically tailored for the busy teacher. It’s my personal mission to be able to work with teachers who are struggling with stress, feeling overwhelmed, feeling depleted and in need of a breather!
Let’s take the time to work on the right things first.
Let’s reclaim your work/life balance so you can feel like YOU again without sacrificing your passion for the job.
Let’s reprioritize and assess the day to look for the things that fuel us as teachers as the measuring stick by which we know if we are doing a good job.
Let’s just get to work! Because your students and colleagues need you – but more importantly, you deserve a life full of fulfillment, joy, peace, and passion – just like anyone else!
This is a place for YOU. That’s why I’m YOUR Best Friend – not your District’s, your students or their parents, or even the standards’ best friend. I am a Teacher’s Best Friend because I care first and foremost for your personal needs and passions. I want to see you win! So what do you say? Let’s get after it!
